Is it because I'm so much older now than I was in the mid 70s and don't notice things that once grabbed my attention, or is it because there are not as many Mormon Missionaries hitting the streets in Australia these days? Back then all you had to do was change the direction you were looking and you'd see two young, indecently handsome young men in white shirts and dark trousers and ties on their way to their next doorknock. I called it the Mormonic Plague. On the rare occasions they knocked on my door I would offer them hospitality but make it clear before they stepped through the door that I would not engage them on religion. My position was, "You are Americans visiting my country offering something that is important to you. I don't want your gift but I can at least make you welcome." Decades later came the musical The Book of Mormon, and everyone wanted to kiss a Mormon - they're so damned cute!!! And self-deprecating: "You've seen the musical, now read the book." And now I am reading your stuff and finding myself thinking that if we lived within walking distance of each other, we could have really good conversations. Oh well.... in another life, perhaps?
